local lovin' [crocker art museum]

this afternoon the husband & I took advantage of me having a minimum day
so it was time to visit the Crocker Art Museum here in Sacramento
and having a groupon didn't hurt either
I hadn't been since the opening of the brand new addition so I was excited to go
things are pretty fancy now
including these cool little stickers you wear as your "ticket"
I must admit, my favorite part is still the original museum
where the collection of the Crocker family is displayed in what was once their home
any 19th century home built for a family with that much wealth is something to see
all on it's own
sure, there were countless pieces of art around us
but the husband and I spent more time noticing the woodwork details
the doors, the hinges in the doors, the bannisters, the floors, and the ceilings
but all in all, it was a pretty great way to spend the later part of the day
however, I did need a nap when I got home
something I'm thinking little lewis is going to need
a lot more of this summer
the details:
Museum Hours
Tuesday – Sunday 10 AM – 5 PM
Thursday 10 AM – 9 PM
Closed Mondays (except for Holiday Mondays), Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day

16 weeks

also known as officially four months along!
and yes it also happens to be memorial day
so I'm rocking some patriotic colors
today I spent the day with my family where we enjoyed lots of american goodness
including these ice cream sandwiches my cousin & I came up with last minute
and thanks to grandma's amazing chocolate chip cookies
they were hands down some of the best ice cream sandwiches I've had in quite some time
happy memorial day - hope you enjoyed the day celebrating & honoring
all the men & women who have sacrificed for our pretty great nation

saturday in golden gate park

of my lil sis's roommates
here are the girls having a good time together
and while I'm on the topic of San Francisco
happy 75th birthday to the Golden Gate Bridge

different kind of pyrex

lately I've been trying to slow down the collecting just a tad
few reasons
#1 running out of room
#2 most of the easier to find patterns I already have
#3 will be moving one day pretty soon and it will all need to be packed with extreme care
however, vacation pyrex hunting is still always allowed
last weekend we were in the central valley of california
let's just say, lots of cows & dust
however, even though it may not be quite as glorious as the northern or southern parts of the state
I know one thing to be true
I always have the best pyrex luck there
here's the latest addition to the collection
I know very little information on this piece other than it is rare
and us pyrex fanatics call it Musical Staff
it has a little more loving than most of my pieces
but I am noticing that the black pieces do not hold up as well as others
even with some slight wear on the staff and a few edges
no major chips or scratches and it was coming home with me
now it sits on the hutch with my midnight bloom
happy weekend indeed

counting down the days

well this year is rapidly approaching the end
I'm feeling pretty zen about having to move classrooms/schools again
however, I must admit that these days focussing on lesson planning is getting a tad hard
and instead
all I'm thinking of is being back here...
and getting to enjoy our season passes as much as we can this summer
and trust me, there will be plenty of Dole Whips & Dole Floats in my future
and if you haven't tried one of these and have been to Disneyland
I suggest you do that pronto
eleven school days to go
and as we all know
a few of those are going to be some all "fun" days
so a little bit more work and play
and then this summer we will be
taking advantage of our last "baby free" summer road trips

15 weeks

snapped our 15 week shot while visiting with the in-laws
in their beautifully garden filled yard
something I'm realizing I may need to pick up at some time
and at almost four months I have already been asked multiple times
if I'm having twins
no, just one
and yes, I am good at baby growing

may showers bring wedding bells

I do enjoy spring showers
especially when they are bridal showers
yesterday I got to spend the day relaxing and eating
two of my favorite Saturday activities
and most importantly, we celebrated the upcoming wedding of our friend Erin
a fellow teacher who I met in our undergraduate program
continued on and got our credential together
and now, we are even getting our masters together
apparently we really like being in study groups together!

three generations

for mother's day I got to join in the festivities for the first time
and we had to snap a three generations of mom's photo
and before we know it, our family will have four generations
in the family photos
and yes, as you can tell, I get my amazing height from my mom's side
all 5'3 of me
this photo may seem not to scale
but I promise it is
and when my growing teenagers point out how short I am
I kindly let them know they should see the rest of my family
we prefer the term "petite"

oh weekends

they are especially fun when all of a sudden
you get to join in on a new holiday
well, new for me
there is one thing that can already be said
this little lewis is already pretty well taken care of
I just love stashing all the tiny goodies away for another day
and I feel pretty lucky I'm able to do just that

sunday's "so they said" [mom edition]

since my students found out I was expecting they have been full of advice
and cute comments
advice from a 14 year old:
"Mrs. Lewis, make sure you are eating lots of different kinds of food because right now your baby is developing what it likes & doesn't like, and we all know you don't want a picky eater."
and if there is one thing I have learned so far
if you don't really have morning sickness in your first trimester
you get quite the baby bump by 14 weeks!

happy mother's day

changes

well some things sure haven't changed
like the fact that this is still one of my favorite places
not being able to sleep in past 5:30 on the weekends is surely new
I'm starting to get the hint from little lewis
#1 - I'm not sleeping in for years
#2 - apparently baby also likes routine

enjoy the weekend - I'm looking forward to some good family fun
and thanks to my lil' sis Meg for the picture

ten on ten [may]

1. preparing for my fifth Open House 2. minimum day = lunch out with the husband 3. even when ordering lunch, never too far from pencils & clipboards 4. antiquing & still seeing classrooms 5. afternoon frozen yogurt fix 6. always something to see, apparently I like looking up today 7. the husband 8. leaving work at almost 8 o'clock tonight 9. baby bump 10. outdoor lounging, and clearly we need to call the property management company about that grass

there's a bun in the oven...

and as you could probably assume by my domestic-ness
no, there is no actual baking going on in this post
I've been sitting on this news for what seems like forever
and I'm hoping that now that it is all out there
I can get back into my true blogging swing
it has been pretty hard to post these last few months
when everything I wanted to talk about
was baby, baby, baby
I promise things will be varied, and not all momminess
but hey, with only five more weeks of school left
I'm sure there will be lots of fun "little themed" posts to come this summer

so yes, the husband and I are pretty excited to become parents
and for some odd reason, I've been pretty zen about the whole thing
which is kind of the opposite of how I thought I would be
hopefully that continues...

currently dreaming of

mid-century
homes, to be more specific
the rooflines
the bright doors
perfect walkways
and overall awesomeness is just too much for me to handle
the husband and I have searched out several of the neighborhoods by us
now I just need to get that job of mine back so we can get
some serious house hunting underway

the ups & downs

well, even though I haven't officially received my official pink slip for the year
[the one that really just means I'll be at a different school next year]
doesn't mean it isn't too soon for the insensitive comments to begin
my room has already been "scoped" out by the teacher on campus
who gets my room next year
and yes, the scoping happened right in the middle of one of my classes
so needless to say, this wasn't a high point for the week
especially since in some way shape or form, this has already happened to me
before moving out of two previous classrooms
however, seeing this helped make my insanely long day a little more worth it
I happened to be on instagram after work and spied this image from a fellow blogger, Meg
she blogs over at Oh Happy Day and is a fellow rockin' middle school teacher
and the reason it made my day...well if you look closely you can see her students are making mandalas
and said she was inspired by the mandalas my kids had made earlier!
there is truly no greater reward than working hard on a lesson
having your students excel & love the lesson
and then see you have inspired another amazing teacher's lesson planning
and it really made me realize where my attention needs to stay focussed
on my students
not the few unprofessional co-workers I may have around me
thanks Meg for this image - it really brightened my day!
