i am

"I am" poems
awesome for open house
even got a few parents teary eyed

here is the structure I used for the poems this year:

I am (2 special characteristics)
I wonder (something of curiosity)
I hear (an imaginary sound)
I see (imaginary sight)
I want (actual desire)
I pretend (something you actually do)
I understand (something that is true)
I say (something you believe)
I dream (something you wish for the future)
I try (something you put effort in)
I hope (an actual hope)
I am (repeat of the first line)

For open house. My cabinets are busting with art so it is time to get ready for one last display.

Gearing up for Open House

Time for a new silhouette project.
Currently my kiddos are scouring for their images.
Tracing begins after break, collaging the week after.
And sure, we'll throw a poem in as well.

My House is Open to You

So yes, I was pretty sure that I would be standing all alone in my perfect classroom on the night of Open House. However, my turnout was amazing (well, my school at least!).  Here is what the room looked like pre-families. We had our Dr. King poster, including a timeline of his life, which I thought would be a good idea to put together the day of Open House, but it did look pretty cool. We also had our fantasy stories about an alien friend (which culminated our unit in space:). All of their final writing pieces were on their desk and then all of the February art projects covered the windows.
