happy father's day

finding a person who makes an amazing partner in parenting
is really something I cannot describe
everly is one of the luckiest girls I know
her daddy is beyond in love with her
and has been since day one
we are not mushy, emotional people over here at the lewis home
but if there is one thing to get a little sappy about
it is how in love these two are
I'm one lucky mama, with one lucky little lady
to call this guy ours
happy father's day!

putting things into perspective

today I got restless
I wanted to go do something
but the rain and Everly made getting out and about a little tricky
and the fact that I had a to-do list that needed my attention
we did get a walk in before things got too stormy
but other than that we've been house-bound
at one point I was feeling a tad stressed with the masters homework I
had to finish before this weekend
and still frustrated that I am still needing to supplement E with a good amount
of formula to not starve her
and even though I had dishes to unload and laundry to put away
and thank you cards to write, I was feeling bored
and that was when the mr. reminded me of what is most important
Everly was sleeping next to me while I was working
and he said
"just look at her, we cannot be stressed about anything when we have her.  just look at that little bundle of joy, it will all be fine."
and that is so true
because right now she is sleeping on me while I type with one hand
and that could never be a bad thing
so even though every day might not be jam packed with
outings and adventures
and some days we will just need to stay home and get things done
we are lucky to have our Everly

life lately

according to my phone
[1] seeing as how we showed up to our birthing class today an hour early
[because I didn't really check the time too closely]
the mr. and I had time for a little coffee date
and since this was officially the first coffee drink my husband has had
it was a photo moment for sure
and yes, this is how we prepare for parenting
[2] still feeling pretty zen after our birthing class today
wish I could say the same for the other women in the class
a few looked like they were going to cry in the bathroom during our first break
[3] nursery is getting there & I'm loving it
[4] you may be thinking we are super prepared parents to be
but really, the mr. just finished another tattoo [as seen in image one]
[5] trying to get caught up on grading and my overall motivation in the classroom
four weeks to go, four weeks
[6] still trying to think outside the box for my two English classes
and I've also decided that I'm a history teacher through and through
go figure

happy saturday
I've got myself positioned on the sofa, and I'm thinking
that's exactly where I'm staying for the duration of the evening

cuteness in the making

tonight we had dinner and a frozen yogurt date with old friends
and their adorable daughter Aria
which gave the mr. and I some fun baby time
and let's just say if I think my husband is this cute with other people's kids
I can only imagine how it will be with Everly
while we were out we did stumble upon a good samaritan dilemma
right there on the sidewalk were a pair of car keys
to the car, parked right there on the street
the poor owner didn't get far before she lost her keys
and because it is second saturday, there are a ton of people downtown for the art walk
and we were in the middle of about ten different places she could be eating at
so, what to do?
we left a note with our number and took the keys
pretty sure that if not, this car could be stolen in no time
and thankfully we ran into a police officer
explained the situation, gave our information, and handed over the keys
so it will be interesting to see how this all pans out
I'm just glad I no longer have the keys in my possession

now it is time for a little down time since I have class again tomorrow
and I'm really wishing I could just do a little vegging tomorrow on the sofa
but since that won't be happening, I'm going to fit some in right now

everly mae

naming a child is really quite the experience
and for the mr. and I it seemed pretty effortless
we did not officially start talking names until we knew if we were having a boy or girl
and once we knew, it still wasn't a major conversation
one thing we did know was the name we had always talked about for a girl
was no longer an option
it had become too popular, and when both parents have very common names
we wanted something a little more unique, without being crazy

when I first got pregnant I had an interesting conversation with one of our uncles
where he starting telling us how the baby will name herself
and you will just know when you have landed on the right name
now, I must admit I kind of left that night thinking, umm, okay
but the craziest part is that I now completely agree with this statement
the mr. and I never could come up with a boy name
and we always kind of joked that it was because we were not going to have a boy
and that happened
and then as soon as we found out little lewis was a girl
nothing but E names came to me
I would send the husband several texts with names that I loved
and ALL of them started with the letter E
he started to get that there was a direction with the name
while perusing popular names from the 1920's & 1930's
I came up with the name Everly
and I knew it was it
the husband loved it pretty much right away
but took his time letting me know that it was "the name"
his reason for waiting?
he said it just seemed "too easy to name her"

the middle name was set years ago
Mae is the most beautiful middle name I've ever heard
it also happens to be the middle name of my best friend
and the name of a band that has been a pretty big part of my adult life

so there you have it
how we came up with the name for our little E
it has just the right amount of vintage elegance for us
and it is different without being crazy
Everly Mae, we cannot wait to meet you

thank you to Meg for making so many beautiful signs for the upcoming baby shower
they are even more amazing than I could have imagined
having artistic family members is very beneficial

green new dots

mmmmmkay
if I had to stop collecting pyrex today, I officially could do it
[wouldn't want to, but I could]
because the ONE piece I've been desiring
needing
loving
wanting
drooling over
searching
hunting
and so on
is finally mine
thanks to the mr. who knows exactly what this birthday girl wanted
the green new dots bowl has found a home with me
and yes, I could have taken a thousand photos of this set
sharing only three was challenging!

twenty-eight

today I turned twenty-eight
it has been a bit of a funky birthday
I think things have just been different this year
I'm still trying to get into my new school
get back into teaching more than one subject at a time with a group of kids
and due to some complicated circumstances
this will be the first year in my 28 that I do not get to have
the family birthday party that I have had every year leading up to this
and to be honest, it is bugging me a bit
maybe because this is my last birthday before E arrives
and I just wanted to do my "normal" party
but I'm not sure
with all that being said I enjoyed my birthday dinner
and my favorite type of presents
vintage & things for E, with a few goodies for me as well
now as many of you may know that pyrex is one of my favorite things
and the husband sure knew just the piece that I needed
in fact, I told him that having this piece by the time I was 30 was a goal
and he made sure that it happened a few years early!
can't wait to do some re-organizing tomorrow
because now, my new dots set is complete
and I think it needs to be featured front & center with the rest of the beauties

moon deco

oh my
today I added a piece to my collection I was pretty sure was never going to happen
I have always loved the striking pattern on the Moon Deco promotional piece
however, these rare pieces are always SO expensive
online they range from $70-135
and in person, I have only seen one, and they wanted just over $100
now, most of my collection is thrifted
and my biggest splurges have been $20
however, when the husband spotted this mint Moon Deco at our favorite
for $40 I knew that it was going to be mine
well, I did think on it for the night
crazy, I know
but I knew that the store, Scout Living
was closing in ten minutes from when we spotted it
and after "thinking on it" for the night, you better believe we were there
as soon as the store opened
I mean, seriously, I can't handle my excitement right now
lately my collecting has really slowed down
and there are only a few pieces I'm really on the hunt for
now that I have my very own Moon Deco
I'm feeling overly satisfied
so, once again, thank you to the mr. for spotting this piece for me
I'm not sure what I would do without him
this baby bump seems to have me a tad off my Pyrex hunting game!

opposite schedules

this week the mr. and I have been experiencing very different schedules
I've been working overtime on my masters
which has meant early mornings and long days
and the husband has been going in late and closing up shop
so, I've been on my own in the evenings
and thankfully this doesn't happen too much because cooking for just me
doesn't really happen
because the mr. isn't there pretty much running the dinner show
so due to some rather large lunch study meals
my dinners have been consisting more of fruit, veggies, and frozen yogurt
tomorrow I'll be back to normal, promise
and tonight while I was walking the three blocks to the yogurt shop [so dangerous]
I stumbled onto a little street festival
I'm still not sure what exactly it was for, or who was sponsoring it
but there were lots of very large art displays of cardboard boxes turned into tunnels
bands playing & art for sale
all in all it was fun to walk through
but it would have been a little more fun if I wasn't solo
thankfully just a few more days until our vacation
and I kind of can't wait!

how we spent our day [anniversary style]

for our anniversary we debated on what exactly to do
we were thinking mini road trip
but then I decided that a day in the car didn't sound super exciting at 6 months pregnant
especially since we will be getting our car fix in soon
when traveling down to southern california for vacation here in a couple of weeks
so instead of the car, we decided to hit up some of our favorite antiquing spots
and well, let's just say that we had some success
I really must say that I cannot pick my favorite find from the day
I am SO in love with the vintage "E" sign we found for the changing table
I put in some new lighting yesterday and she is sure glowing pretty at night
and yes, the little lady's name starts with an "E"
but we will leave it at that for the moment
and the kitchen cabinet, well, it's simply to die for
I am loving it in our kitchen, it is such the perfect fit
and because any anniversary isn't complete without some pyrex
I had to pick up this Friendship fridgie that the Mr. found for me
and considering it was priced like it was at a thrift store
it was surely coming home with me

could not think of any better way to spend celebrating four years of married life

four years ago today [we got married]

it is pretty amazing how fast the years go by
it is hard for me to believe that we have already been mr. & mrs. for four years
I must admit that married life suits me pretty well
and I can't imagine my life being any different than it is right now
and this year feels even more special
because it is our last anniversary we celebrate just the two of us
I cannot wait to see what year five brings us, besides our daughter of course
so here's to many more road trips, adventures, and overall awesomeness

we are having a little GIRL!

well, we were feeling girl
our friends and family [mostly] were feeling girl
and let's just say I was pretty excited to find out today
that yes, we are having a little girl!
I pretty much can't explain my excited-ness right now
so I will try again tomorrow!
the one thing I can say is my husband is officially on the awesome husband list
for giving me what I deep down really wanted
so yeah, thanks for that

20 weeks

oh yeah baby, half way there
officially five months along and only TWO more days until we know the biggest
most exciting news we have had in quite a long time [boy or girl]
and honestly, at the moment, I can't think of bigger news
that the husband & I have ever waited for
so, speaking of the mr.
I figured he deserved to get in these pics too for the little half way party
we had on the street
so yeah, happy sunday
and currently baby is moving all around
which must mean one thing, and one thing only
baby supports mommy's blogging obsession
at least that's how I'm taking it
so you can only imagine how excited I was when I felt baby for the very first time
after finishing playing in our 8th grade vs. teachers slow pitch softball game
on the last day of school
clearly, future ball & glove kind of little one

making room for baby part I

this week the husband & I started officially making room for baby
when we first found out we were expecting
our initial plan was to move over the summer and buy a house
however, buying a house means leaving our neighborhood
a neighborhood, which, I may be biased, but I do believe to be the best part of
our state's capitol
so, as soon as we officially realized we were going to be staying in our one bedroom flat
for at least another year
it was time to start making room for baby
and even though there is only one official bedroom
we technically have two living rooms
and one will be turning into little lewis' nursery in the coming months
here's some ideas I'm currently bouncing around
1. crane mobile  2. colors  3. lamp  4. rug  5. crib  6. alphabet
but for now I will keep organizing and cleaning out what we already have
and only six more days until we find out if we are having a boy or girl!

new reasons for a happy day

this father's day is something I have been waiting for for quite some time
a reason to celebrate the day again
losing my dad at only 19 has made this holiday less than wonderful for the past 8 years
but today I get to spend the evening with that mr. of mine
celebrating father's day in a very new way
can't wait for him to get home from work so he can open his presents
as we continue to get more and more excited with each passing day
about our little november arrival
as for today, I'm thinking spending it poolside with some of my favorite ladies
mom & grandma
sounds like a pretty great way to spend the day

best of both worlds

well one thing is true
I love me some history and some indie rock
well, when that indie band, formally the format (front man at least), now fun. makes it big
they get a large enough video budget to make a video like this

fun. + civil war + a husband that texts me this video link = happy monday to me
and seeing as it will be another late night at work
8th grade graduation ceremony later, I needed the pick me up

sun.

today we enjoyed our town
took an extremely long walk
and didn't do much else
and it was pretty nice
tomorrow it is off to the city to see meg
but as for tonight I think another stroll is in store
and some celebrating with friends to top things off

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

well that was a week

so last Wednesday I started coughing in the middle of the night
and it's been down hill since then
today is the first day I have felt halfway like myself
still super sick, but actually sitting up on the couch, and that is a big improvement
so this has been my only view lately
I have never missed this much work for being sick
but after two days last week of being constantly asked by teenagers why I was so cranky
after I had just spent five minutes having a coughing attack
I knew that I needed to take a few days off
and having the Dr. write me out for the rest of the week
well, I just went with it
so now it is time for me to do report cards, and I'm pretty thankful they are all online nowadays
here's to my humidifier, chicken noodle soup, and orange slices
oh, and a husband who has been on major nurse duty the past few days

Thursday, March 8, 2012

brightening up this already bright day

today was beautiful day
and these flowers brought home by the husband
just because weren't too shabby either
one more day and finally a weekend
and seeing as how vacation seems like it was forever ago
and I haven't had a day off since then
I'm feeling oh so ready for it

southern california, pretty in to you right now

so you know how sometimes you just have trips, and they don't go exactly as planned
and they might not live up to your expectations
well, that hasn't been this trip at all
luckin' into awesomness has been the theme so far
and I'm not going to let that stop anytime soon.
currently blogging from my new favorite place
poolside
and yes, I'm pretty into it
photo strips taken with IncrediBooth
I picked it up for free, but it is still only $.99 (not bad)
