Fairytale Town [local lovin']

There are just those things that you always imagine doing once you become a mom.  For some, it may be the first tea party, for others it may be a sporting event.   For me, taking my child to Fairytale Town was one of "those moments".  I had the amazing idea to take Everly to Fairytale Town on her first birthday.  However, my child was born in November, and her birthday fell on a Tuesday, so the place was closed due to "winter hours".  Sad face.  However, something glorious happened, they were open on Veteran's Day, and our family had the day off together, so mommy dreams do come true!  Here are some glimpses of our first trip of many I'm sure.

We loved our visit.  They have a few new additions to the town since I've been and we enjoyed all of the friendly animals, freshly painted characters, and next time, we will be taking on more of the slides!  Even so, this place still has a very classic feel about it, and it was such a great way to spend the day.

local lovin' [crocker art museum]

this afternoon the husband & I took advantage of me having a minimum day

so it was time to visit the Crocker Art Museum here in Sacramento

and having a groupon didn't hurt either

I hadn't been since the opening of the brand new addition so I was excited to go

things are pretty fancy now

including these cool little stickers you wear as your "ticket"

I must admit, my favorite part is still the original museum

where the collection of the Crocker family is displayed in what was once their home

any 19th century home built for a family with that much wealth is something to see

all on it's own

sure, there were countless pieces of art around us

but the husband and I spent more time noticing the woodwork details 

the doors, the hinges in the doors, the bannisters, the floors, and the ceilings

but all in all, it was a pretty great way to spend the later part of the day

however, I did need a nap when I got home

something I'm thinking little lewis is going to need 

a lot more of this summer

local lovin' [travel edition]

it has been quite a while since I've done a local lovin' post

but our recent vacation find in san diego cannot go unmentioned

we booked our room at the Lafayette Hotel the morning of our stay

for a whopping $59, and the reviews were good

but our experience was excellent

it is no surprise that the husband and I are lovers of all things from the past

and The Lafayette Hotel in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego

is really a great example of why

the hotel has recently been undergoing some major renovations

and I loved when staying there how they displayed the hotel's history for guests to see

in fact back in the day it was frequented by the likes of Bob Hope

not bad for us nerds for all things old and glamourous

the neighborhood was pretty simple

near major San Diego attractions like the Zoo & Balboa Park

but the "main drag" just had a great feel the husband & I couldn't get enough of

if only they made signs like these nowadays

and I would be an even happier camper

So if you are ever in the area, I would highly suggest this place.  

for couples I would ask for a room by the pool

(we just got insanely lucky!)

and families, they have larger rooms & bungalows that would be a great fit for more than two

local lovin' - eggie's restaurant

well, they say that the way into a man's heart is through his stomach

for mine - it is simply breakfast

he could eat it everyday, three times a day

now my next local lovin' is not only a great place for breakfast in Sacramento

it is also a pretty special spot for us

when we first started dating we hit this place up ALL the time

in fact, we were going out to breakfast more than dinner!

my favorite thing to get is the fresh strawberry waffle

no fake crap here - I hate all the jelly syrupie stuff 

some of those other breakfast chains call strawberries, but I digress

anyways - if you are a local yourself, and haven't tried this little spot

I suggest you do so

they also have GREAT weekday deals which the hubs & I took advantage of today

while we still can!

local lovin' - Long Beach Antique Mall II (travel edition)

Let's just say that the husband and I LOVED Long Beach's Retro Row.  We loved it so much we actually went there two days in a row!

So, for this local lovin' I am going to feature the spot we just couldn't get enough of!  The Long Beach Antique Mall has just opened a second location across the street and it was a dream come true.

We've only been home two days and we are already talking about our next trip to this place!

local lovin' - retro menagerie

Well, this next shop is local - but because it is an etsy shop, you can find it anywhere!  My friend has just recently opened her shop - Retro Menagerie.  She is selling original prints (love the vintage inspiration) as well as house wares from decades past.

My personal favorite is this perpetual calendar.  I think it will be my first purchase.
